Digital Engagement Specialist, Part-Time

Reports To: The Digital Engagement Specialist will report to The Marjorie Editorial team and will meet regularly with the Communications Director and work closely with staff writers and other contributors. 

Job Overview: The Marjorie is seeking a Part-Time Digital Engagement Specialist to help amplify The Marjorie’s mission and content through social media, email marketing, and other digital platforms. This position will also occasionally represent The Marjorie at meetings or conferences.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop and implement a holistic digital marketing plan to grow The Marjorie’s audience and further its mission. 
  • Create, manage and schedule The Marjorie’s day-to-day social media posts, keeping attune to new trends. 
  • Work with the Editorial Team, staff writer and Communications Director to produce newsletters.
  • Develop digital marketing campaigns for fundraising efforts (i.e. Summer Membership Drive, NewsMatch Fall Campaign). 
  • Research and establish relationships with other media outlets for potential collaborations/republication of Marjorie content. 
  • Attend meetings, workshops/trainings for Institute for Nonprofit News, Local Independent Online News and the Florida Climate Reporting Network.
  • Contribute innovative ideas to a growing reporting nonprofit.  


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in marketing, public relations, communications, journalism or other related field. Will consider equivalent experience. 
  • Excellent communication skills. Strong skills in social media design and management. 
  • Curiosity about Florida’s environmental issues and passion for the role of free and independent journalism. 
  • Ability to coordinate with and respond in a punctual manner with the team as well as other partners and collaborators. 
  • High competency working in a virtual environment. 
  • Strong preference for proficiency in Google Drive, Canva, Adobe Photoshop, WordPress, Slack, Zoom, Adobe Spark and Microsoft Excel. 
  • Personal characteristics: collaborative, enthusiastic, self-starter, punctual, organized. 
  • Flexible schedule with capability to work weekends as needed. 

Compensation: $20-25/hr for 10 hrs/week 

Location: Remote. Preference toward applicants residing in Florida. 

Time period: This position will be funded for one year with the possibility to extend.
